LRFD for Highway Bridge Substructures and Earth Retaining Structures
Sponsored
by: The American
Council of Engineering Companies of WV and National
Highway Institute
February 9-12, 2009
WVDOH Materials Control,
Soils and Testing Division Building
Charleston, WV
DESCRIPTION:
The course promotes the philosophy of the LRFD design platform and establishes
the motivation for LRFD as the reassurance that safe design practices are being
applied where needed. For structural applications, the curriculum follows the
AASHTO "LRFD Bridge Design Specifications," 3rd Edition, 2004 (AASHTO
LRFD). However for geotechnical applications, the curriculum follows
development work on AASHTO LRFD Section 10, Foundations, including the approved
2008 interim specifications.
OUTCOMES:
Upon completion of the course, participants will be able to:
- Define AASHTO LRFD limit states and compute
structural and geotechnical design loads
- Apply
AASHTO LRFD criteria for design
- Integrate
the AASHTO LRFD specification provisions into the host agency's current
practice
- Integrate
the geotechnical aspects of LRFD foundation design into LRFD structural
design

Seminar
Policy
Adopted
November 2009
Expo appreciates your interest in holding a seminar at the show. We would
appreciate you reviewing the following guidelines before submitting your
seminar proposal at www.wvexpo.com
- Seminar
proposals must be submitted electronically thru the Expo website at www.wvexpo.com
An electronic confirmation of submittal will be sent immediately
when received by Expo.
- Proposals
are due no later than December 31st of the year preceding the
show.
- Seminars
must have a “Sponsor”, which can be one of the four associations that
sponsor Expo or one of the 20 Co-Sponsoring organizations. If you
do not have a sponsor for your proposed seminar, you can still submit
your proposal for consideration by the Expo Board.
- Expo
reserves the exclusive right to accept or reject any seminar
proposal. Expo will confirm status of submittals in January.
- Seminars
should be educational in nature and not geared toward promoting or
selling a particular product or service. Seminars should promote
professional development or skill-building.
- Expo
encourages seminar sponsors to offer their programs free of charge.
Seminar sponsors desiring to charge a fee must request so in writing.
- Seminar
presenters must be an Exhibitor. Exceptions may be made for state
and federal agencies; certain non-profit organizations and others who
request, in writing, a waiver of this requirement.
- Seminar
Sponsors or their presenters are encouraged to offer programs that
provide continuing education credits for their intended audience (if
applicable) and certificates for those attending the class.
- Seminar
Sponsors or their presenters are encouraged to make copies of their
presentations available to attendees.
- Expo
will provide a public address (PA) system in each room and presenters
are strongly encouraged to use it.
- Seminar
Sponsors and their presenters must abide by the schedule for their
program, as the seminar room is likely to be used multiple times each
day.
- Seminar
Sponsors agree to promote their seminar to their intended audience.
Expo
agrees to provide Seminar Sponsors a free room, normally set up with theatre
style seating, including a screen; projection cart; power cord; display/head table;
podium; registration table in rear of room; and a PA system with a podium
microphone and lavaliere microphone. Any other audio visual equipment,
including laptop computers, pointers and projectors, are the responsibility
of the seminar sponsor or their presenter. Wireless internet will
be provided by Expo in each seminar room. Expo will list your seminar title
and description on the Expo website and, upon request, provide you a
pre-registration list.
